You can typically talk oneself about to the thought of betting on a person else, and in my knowledge it only leads to disappointment. If you do lose your funds then walkaway, it really is as basic as that. Also if you do not fancy a team in the first location then never change your mind. What this is, is a few guidelines on what to do and what not to do when betting on football accumulators, no guarantees, no 99.9% accuracy nonsense, just things that in my opinion you Need to know and realise ahead of even attempting to place your bet. I always pick a four team accumulator of 4 draws amongst my bets as the m88 odds for a match finishing all square hardly ever goes beneath two/1.
It’s straightforward to get carried away when filling out your betting slip as you watch the odds rise, at times you practically convince yourself that you can’t shed. What i pay consideration to is their special offers when signing up and what they present customerson a normal basis. I have a tendency to stick with four or 5 teams at the most, even then it really is really hard adequate. Also it’s superior to scour the online to see what individuals make of a certain bookmakers customer service enable lines. Do not get sucked in by this as they are just as likely (or unlikely) as every person else to choose a winning accumulator. Back your personal judgement, no one elses.
So there it is. The purpose for this is i have included them before and they have been the only team to let me down on much more than one particular occasion. Just for the reason that they used to play the game means practically nothing. There are my major 10 guidelines for gambling on football accumulators. Go with your initial instinct.
BET ON WHAT YOU KNOW
Now and once more you will see ex footballers providing their suggestions on who to pick and who to remain clear of. A pointless bet in my opinion.
BET FOR ENJOYMENT
Do not LISTEN TO THE “Specialists”
When betting on football i only bet on teams and leagues that i know about. If you cannot walkaway then you should not be betting.
If you aren’t enjoying betting on sporting events then you are performing it for the incorrect motives. Really feel totally free to leave any comments under.
Do not ADD Also Many TEAMS
If a group is 1/7 to win then i don’t even take into account it as there is certainly no value in them. It is quick to have have a blinkered view when it comes to your team.
Do not ADD TEAMS WHO’S ODDS ARE Also Brief
Now most online bookmakers will guarantee the very best odds so i do not spend also a lot consideration when i read that. The chances are that if you don’t they will win and the group you chose in their location at the final minute will let you down. When there is funds at stake you want to know that you can get hold of the enterprise in query and get the enable you demand.
Never IGNORE THE DRAW
Now let me commence by telling you that this is not some wonderful foolproof betting method that under no circumstances fails as they simply don’t exist. I thank you for reading and i hope you located this hub beneficial. Looking back on it if i was a neutral then i almost certainly would not have picked them. Set your self a limit just before you start betting, a figure that you know you can afford to lose. They add really small to your all round winnings and there is generally the opportunity that they can let you down and not even win at all. If you feel the want to bet on pretty a few teams then i’d recommend a low stake as the possibilities of winning are extremely modest.
Do not LET THE HEART RULE THE HEAD
I make a point of under no circumstances including my beloved Stoke City in any of my accumulators. Here’s my guide:
KNOW YOUR LIMITS
Ok so this is an apparent 1 but it is so straightforward to get caught up in the moment. The cold, tough truth is that if you are betting on accumulators then it really is quite probably that you are going to lose, nonetheless, if you stick to the actions above then i think you will eliminate some of the most typical errors produced when creating your selections. It’s pointless me betting on the Argentinian league or the Brazilian league as i wouldn’t have a clue what i was performing, So i just ordinarily stick to the English leagues, as it’s simpler for me to spot a bet that i feel is superior value.
Do not Alter YOUR Thoughts
When selecting your teams it is generally quick to just go for a group to win and forget about the other outcome, a draw. KNOW YOUR BOOKMAKERS
If you look by way of the paper and fancy a particular group then make sure you pick them. It’s not a way to make an extra income (even though it does really feel good when you win) If the enjoyment has gone then it only spells difficulty.. Gambling to me is a kind of entertainment, just like going to the cinema is for other individuals

Once Great Britain caves, look for U.S. He claims slot machines are more addictive than the table games (blackjack, craps) and have bigger profit margins. He stops attending the gatherings he used to go to. “Parents are modeling acceptable behavior for their kids.”
But the government’s efforts in this area hit a major snag thanks to a case in Louisiana. Many states have chapters of the Council on Compulsive Gambling.
Just to set the record straight: I’m not against gambling per se. — that carry advertising for Internet gambling websites.
Retirees, like 70 percent of all casino gamblers, love the slots. (And I’m not just talking about those in Nevada.) Ever see someone policing who drops some coins into those slots?
Why would the British do such a thing? Well, as our colonial forebears would say, “To collect a tax, of course!”
OK, it’s unlikely a 12-year old is going to be able to waltz into a casino and hit the slots. Plus, when you’re using credit or other non-cash methods of betting “it doesn’t feel like you’re spending money.”
found to engage in gambling activities.” About 80 percent of high school students admit they gambled for money in the past year. The U.S. But he points out that kids get their values from their parents. But you’ve got to make the first move.
And our closest ally is on the verge of making it even easier: In a few weeks, the British Parliament is expected to approve Internet gambling. A number of individuals who, in Kelly’s words, “were dumb enough to click the mouse and bet the house” sued MasterCard and Visa to get their money back, claiming the credit card companies were, in effect, part of an illegal enterprise. They lost the case. or any of its affiliates. In fact, religious and social groups often sanction gambling by sponsoring everything from bingo to riverboat gambling bus outings. And did I mention, Ol’ Chap, that this legislation will specifically allow these British operations to accept bets from folks located outside the country?
The folks who work at organizations that do provide some help for compulsive gamblers have noted a disturbing demographic trend: An increase in gambling among Americans at opposite ends of the age spectrum, seniors and teenagers.
This week, Gail explains why an increasing number of seniors and teens are susceptible to gambling problems.
According to the Arizona Council on Compulsive Gambling (search), “seniors are gambling in record numbers.” In 1998, the Arizona CCG’s Helpline reported that 25 percent of the calls received came from those over age 55; by 2002, the number had risen to 35 percent.
Though they may not agree on the dollars involved, experts agree on this: Internet gambling is exploding. Attorney in St. The most common one is a change in a person’s social relationships. Gambling provides a distraction to temporarily take their mind off their loneliness. And as along as they occasionally go “ka-ching”, it keeps the customers satisfied. “Kids love to take risks,” he says. In other words, if you can’t bet ‘em, then tax and regulate ‘em!
To access Gail’s past columns, simply use our new “Search” function: type in “Buckner” and you’ll be able to get all Your $ Matters columns since April 2001.
He says 30 percent of kids 12 to17 years old have bought a lottery ticket in the past year.
Factors that often trigger compulsive gambling aren’t isolated to seniors. In the words of the Arizona CCG, these retirees are using gambling to “self-medicate” themselves. Then there are the “mega-lotteries” that combine several states.
If you think someone you love — no matter what their age — may have a gambling problem, it’s important to recognize the warning signs. Labor costs are zero. It’s at: http://www.ncpgambling.org . In fact, based on what I was able to dig up on the Internet, it appears that all but three states — Utah, Hawaii, and Tennessee — allow some form of legalized gambling. She no longer hangs out with the same friends. Research indicates many seniors start to gamble when they lose their spouse. by early next year. The National Council on Problem Gambling’s Web site has a 10-question test to take to determine if gambling is becoming a problem in your or someone else’s life. Help is available. While it’s illegal for a U.S.-based operation to offer on-line betting, there’s nothing to stop someone from setting up shop outside this country. In 2002, PayPal (PPL) and Citibank (C) settled with New York state and agreed to stop extending credit to state residents engaged in on-line gambling. In Nevada, according to Loomey, the house take on slots is 1 to 3 cents per dollar bet. Louis has assembled a grand jury to look into various media outlets — newspapers, TV channels, etc. I’ve been known to occasionally buy a lottery ticket and even drop some quarters into the slot machines on rare trips to Vegas. And coming back.
It’s tough to put a number on this, but Ed Loomey, director of the New Jersey Council on Compulsive Gambling (search), claims $900 billion was bet across America in legal gambling last year. (Notice I didn’t say “wealth-building.”) However, this is not the case for the estimated 7.5 million Americans who, according to the 2001 National Gambling Impact Study, have a gambling problem. While this form of Internet payment isn’t yet popular in this country, it is widely used in Europe.

Let’s face it, people who want to gamble online are going to find a way to do it.
And, while reputable Internet gambling websites require proof of age, any kid smart enough to get a fake driver’s license to buy beer can use the same piece of identification to get the OK to roll the dice online.
Slot machines don’t require anything but electricity and an occasional new bulb.
Then there are the one-armed bandits you can find at highway rest stops. lawmakers to take another look at things in this country. But that could be an understatement because of the difficulty of tracking the latest gambling venue: The Internet.
Prosecutors have tried to crack down on Internet gambling by going after the intermediaries. This article is for information only and is not an offer of the sale of any mutual fund or other investment.
As I wrote last week, gambling — in all its forms– is becoming more prevalent in this country. The International Centre for Youth Gambling Problems and High-Risk Behaviors (search) at McGill University in Montreal, Canada lists depression, loneliness, anxiety/stress, boredom, “feeling like a failure” and “feeling rejected” among those factors.
Research by the International Centre for Youth Gambling concludes that gambling’s “popularity is on the rise amongst both children and adolescents…in both legal and illegal forms.” If it makes you feel any better, this is not a problem isolated to developed countries. For most people, gambling is fun, exciting, entertaining, and harmless. As Whyte points out, “When is the last time someone carded a person buying a lottery ticket?”
There are dozens of organizations you can tap into for help, including Gambler’s Anonymous. Buckner or the individual commentator, and do not necessarily reflect the views of Putnam Investments Inc. “The casino machines in particular create an anesthetizing quality that temporarily releases them from emotional end even physical pain.”
Both age groups often have two key attributes essential for gambling: Disposable income and time.
Trying to stop Internet gambling by drying up credit is a “dumb idea” according to Kelly. The good news for parents is that this tendency usually spikes between the ages of 18 and 24, and then tapers off. And for lonely retirees, these trips — often with the same group of people– can fill the void many feel for companionship, if only for a few hours.
Given the pressures of being a teenager — wanting to fit in, be accepted, wear the right clothes, relieve boredom — the escape and excitement that gambling offers are powerful attractions. Other retirees take up gambling to relieve despression caused by the loss of status they feel as a result of leaving their jobs. Thirty-eight states plus the District of Columbia sponsor lotteries. Surprisingly few states do this.
Joseph Kelly, a law professor at the State University of New York (search) College at Buffalo and an online gambling consultant, says an estimated $12 billion was bet over the Internet last year, worldwide. They don’t make overtime. The profit margin is higher in Atlantic City. Online winnings can be wired to a third country, leaving little, if any, paper trail. The McGill Centre found that gambling is “the most popular high-risk activity among teenagers.” In other words, a higher percentage of teens gamble than do drugs, smoke cigarettes, or drink alcohol.
Gail Buckner and Foxnews.com regret that all letters cannot be addressed and that some might be combined in order to more completely address a topic.
Indeed, the McGill Centre found that “it is not unusual for parents to purchase lottery tickets for their children at an early age or to take them to play bingo.” While most kids aren’t going to grow up to be a compulsive gambler just because Aunt Sally slipped some Scratch’n’Win tickets into their birthday card, preliminary studies suggest a connection between the age at which someone starts to gamble and whether they develop into an adult who is a problem gambler.
This is no surprise to Keith Whyte, Executive Director of the National Council on Problem Gambling. Whyte says the Internet is especially appealing to the compulsive gambler because it offers anonymity and social isolation. It’s practically a money-launderer’s dream.” That’s because it’s harder to “follow the money” with e-cash. “New Jersey machines have a computer chip that’s programmed to randomly allow people to win 93 percent of the time,” says Loomey. The Centre says “an alarmingly high percentage of children and adolescents worldwide have been
. is about 60 percent of the market.”
In addition, gambling has lost the old social stigma it once had, especially for women. According to Kelly, while Internet gambling firms located in, say, the Isle of Man or Antigua are heavily regulated, there are also unscrupulous operators on the Internet.
Sound like a teenager you know?
The views expressed in this article are those of Ms. He adds, “The U.S. “When you get the credit card companies out of the business, people switch to electronic cash
He logs about 21 minutes per game, the same as Kanter, and half-dozen fewer than Tristan Thompson, his burlier doppelgänger in Cleveland, working the same role as a hybrid, rim-running big.
But those teams had more continuity in talent; we knew most of them would be at least decent. Stephen Curry
2. Jokic has more competition for minutes and touches, but it’s not as if he’s stuck in a loaded roster; the Nuggets are only four games ahead of Minnesota, and Jusuf Nurkic, one of Jokic’s main competitors for playing time, spent half the season injured and in Mike Malone’s doghouse.
He’s also a better, more versatile defender — quick enough to guard any wing, and so long, he can dart in from the strong side to snuff a drive and veer back to a sharp shooter without conceding a thing. Both guys can defend up a position, but Durant sliding to power forward opens more lineup possibilities than Westbrook muscling a shooting guard.
There are too many six-point, five-rebound nights for Davis to win this award, but he deserves a hard look. Crowder and Whiteside are matching what they did last season in more limited runs in Boston and Miami, respectively.
None of the league’s perimeter stoppers — including Paul George and Jimmy Butler — matched the consistency of these three studs.
COACH OF THE YEAR
Two broad player types give me trouble here: the second-year guy who thrives with increased playing time, and the superstar who somehow becomes even better. Most of those chuckers can slide into a secondary role alongside starters in crunch time.
I have an official ballot again this year, so these votes count. It’s a big reason Charlotte gradually found its footing in those minutes when Walker leads the offense without Nicolas Batum as co-pilot.
I haven’t wrapped my head around what to do with the second type — notably Curry, Green and Leonard. Brutes with touch and the heft to get into Whiteside’s body have done damage on the block; opponents have hit 51 percent of their post-up shots against him, per Synergy Sports research, 10th worst among 72 defenders who have faced at least 75 post-ups this season.
Millsap’s comfort zone extends across the full court, and every playing style. But Porzingis logged nearly 400 more minutes and did heavy lifting as the No. What a season.
Traditionally, this is an award for gunners. Evan Turner fills every gap for the Celtics.
Confession: I had no idea what to do with this award once Iguodala started missing games — and with Whiteside ineligible.
Walker reinvented only one part of his game, but that single change — morphing into an above-average 3-point shooter — transformed everything for the Hornets. That culture of openness and community held up as Kerr recovered. The Warriors would have to reinvent their entire offense, and they might not be very good.
Barton and Enes Kanter might represent superior versions of the classic Crawford candidacy. He’s like a five-tool center! If he’s not a top-15 player already, he’s going to be soon.
I gravitate toward the squishy middle — mid-career guys who make an overall leap, or hone one key skill that unlocks other parts of their game. That is remarkable. The Blazers don’t rise from the ashes without McCollum maturing into a borderline star.
Even so: There are matchups that trouble him. pro sports leagues, and at the top, that’s true. He envelopes opponents, and he’d be the captain of my Mirror Guy team for defenders who move in such exact sync with a ball handler, it almost appears as if the ball handler is dueling with a reflection.
This was just a brutal category.
He has been Portland’s best big man; he plays a lot of crunch time, and has stepped into an even more important role with Meyers Leonard hurt and Noah Vonleh fading. 6 seed after losing four starters is perhaps the happiest story of the season. And alas, DeAndre Jordan is not quite as good as his reputation.
Additional apologies to (deep breath): Barton, Crowder, Capela, Whiteside, Kent Bazemore, Zach LaVine, Allen Crabbe, Evan Fournier, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Lance Thomas, Khris Middleton, Marvin Williams, Reggie Jackson and many other nice people.
But Curry and Leonard were already so damn good, they had only so far to leap. He doesn’t snap at teammates or manufacture chaos with calculated, passive-aggressive social media fits. Redick and Jordan. Green can play up a position for entire games if need be, and that is the launch code to basketball’s nuclear bomb: the Death Lineup, with Green as a sneering, rampaging, fast-breaking center, and shooters raining death around him.
He likes to hang back on the pick-and-roll, inviting disaster against sharpshooters like Curry and Damian Lillard, who need only a sliver to unleash pull-up 3s upon turning the corner. Leonard and Green are the two most important, cruelest, most unfair defenders in the league, and it isn’t close. He is much better than his traditional numbers suggest. Steve Kerr
2. Karl-Anthony Towns
2. He sure scored a lot, though! Devin Booker got started too late, defended air and finished with an ugly — if understandable — uptick in turnovers. Jokic leads all rookies in adjusted plus-minus by a mile; he’s ninth in the whole stinking league, right ahead of DeMarcus Cousins! He’s an intuitive, nasty defender — better than you’d guess, given his ho-hum athleticism.
Durant gets the nod by the hair on my chinny-chin-chin. Do that now, and Walker is roasting you from deep.
A word on the Leonard-LeBron debate: LeBron at full throttle is the better player, and perhaps still the best player in the league. People don’t think of Millsap as an elite defender. Kevin Durant
5. Curry has been the best and most valuable player in the NBA — a glitch in the system who transformed a sport. Young players get better with experience, and they get to play more.
1. Kanter is trying harder this season, and he can usually survive if the other team plays at least one traditional big man.
Jabari Parker and Julius Randle are basically rookies. He also absorbed a larger burden during Griffin’s absence.
He’s not LeBron in those situations. They’re going to win mega-awards, anyway, and one of them will likely snag the championship.
Below that stratosphere, team identity and culture are fragile. Towns kills by those metrics, sources tell me, and he laps the field by most other public statistical measures.
Defenders have to chase Walker over picks, and that means he can ankle-break his way into the paint — drawing help and opening up 3-point looks for Charlotte’s army of shooters. There is some merit to that. Remember: I was touting Whiteside early in the season when commentators who didn’t bother digging into even one layer of context would robotically recite the stat showing the Heat defended better with Whiteside on the bench.
The bedrock principles of San Antonio’s culture have been unassailable for 20 years. Gentle reminder: I consider every speck of information — game film, public stats, secret stats I wrangle up, exchanges of intel with team officials — and I don’t hate your team.
Additional apologies to: Crawford, Turner, Patterson, Thompson, Mirza Teletovic, Jeremy Lin, Shaun Livingston, Dennis Schroder, Clint Capela, Ryan Anderson, Jrue Holiday, Darren Collison, Patty Mills, Cory Joseph, Manu Ginobili, Bismack Biyombo and Matthew Dellavedova.
MOST IMPROVED PLAYER
I lean toward Green because of his versatility — and especially his unique ability, at 6-foot-6, to credibly guard centers. He’s just not as good as these other guys.
Leonard might be an even better one-on-one defender, though, and he could toggle between positions more often if Gregg Popovich demanded it. He’s a slick passer from the post, the elbows and in transition.
1. McCollum is really a Category 1 type on a one-year delay, but unlike a lot of young guys thrust into larger roles, he’s pulling this as the second-best player on a playoff team. 5 or No. He became a different player.
He’s still bad on defense, but not as bad as he once was. Leonard doesn’t think, or pass, two steps ahead of the defense, and he’s not strong enough to bulldoze his way to the rim every damn time. No one else should get a first-place vote.
There are seven candidates for the last four spots: the four listed, plus Russell Westbrook, Kyle Lowry and Draymond Green. 3 spot will raise some eyebrows, especially in Miami, where Hassan Whiteside rejected everything in sight. No one is. But he’s plenty good, with a jumper that clicked as LeBron’s broke apart, and he has been the league’s second-best player.
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
Towns should win unanimously. Not here.
Also: Win 72 games — and maybe 73! — and I break my long-standing rule of voting for Popovich every season.
That leaves an impossible choice between Westbrook and Durant — a choice that almost seems unfair given the Thunder’s hit-or-miss supporting cast. He stabilized the team’s iffy defense with some key midseason tweaks, including a few that nudged players into uncomfortable new challenges. 1 — a jack-of-all-trades with the speed to extinguish pick-and-rolls 30 feet from the basket, glue-trap hands that rip more steals than almost any big man in league history, and the guts to initiate an airborne collision at the rim. Green and Curry lean on each other, and lift the team together, but the value gap between them is large enough to shove Green off this ballot.
Still: Kanter gives back a lot of points, and the Thunder will have to cut his minutes against elite postseason offenses who target him like chum.
Davis’ 21 minutes drove Portland toward the unexpected. Draymond Green
2. Kemba Walker
3. Everything about the Warriors — their style, their identity, their strut — emanates from his historically unprecedented shooting.
But from start to finish, Leonard had the better season, for the better team. Jahlil Okafor missed 35 percent of the season, played some of the worst big-man defense in NBA history and exacerbated an internal crisis with embarrassing off-court behavior. The drudgery of travel and in-the-moment decision-making are big parts of coaching. Andre Iguodala
2. Crawford thrives with Paul, J.J. Chris Paul
Westbrook is incredible, and he might finish in the top three once the votes are in. He has been a two-way force with the inside-outside skill set a big-man star needs in the modern NBA. Some combination of injuries, infighting and confusion undid Washington, New Orleans and Phoenix. He has remade himself into a natural fit for Stotts’ catch-and-go system, and works hard on defense.
Advanced stats wonks have argued he should win the award, and he has a strong case to leapfrog Porzingis for the No. LeBron resides in another universe as a passer. They help in one spot, bend away from another and return there before the offense even realizes anyone was open. Gregg Popovich
3. Isolating a coach’s work from Halloween through tax day is a strange conceit.. A lead ball handler polishing his long-range shot is the rare isolated skill development that ripples across an entire roster. Whiteside has been more diligent taking an extra step out toward such players over the past 40 games, but he’s wobbly — and vulnerable to blow-bys — outside his comfort zone.
He gets those numbers without gambling, and he can guard any position in a pinch. Ian Mahinmi
Lowry became a superstar, always in hunched motion, waiting to spring into open space when you take a breath. There isn’t much difference between them statistically, and Durant reclaimed some control of the Thunder offense once Billy Donovan started staggering the Westbrook/Durant minutes in February. Both will make a lot of ballots, and that’s fine.
Clifford reimagined Charlotte’s offense as a high-octane triple machine without conceding an inch on any of his conservative (basketball) principles: low turnovers, fast-break paranoia, and killer defensive rebounding. He’s a horse on the glass, always does his job in transition and plays hard on every damn possession.
Westbrook remains a manic gambler who submarines too many possessions with reckless choices. Green is the yapping nervous system of that defense.
The Blazers snagging the No. He’s already a bright, shining plus at everything: post scoring, jump shooting, passing, defending the rim and scampering around in space. Kawhi Leonard
3. The first type is packed: Gary Harris, Doug McDermott, Clint Capela, Rodney Hood, JaMychal Green, Jerami Grant and many more. They switch and re-switch without cracking open even the teeniest lanes. He can play with any lineup, and against any lineup. Chicago lost its way, and by the end of the season, the Bulls were just throwing crap against the wall on offense — lifeless possessions with no purpose. LeBron can be the fastest all-court defender in the league when he wishes; remember, he outperformed computerized ghost defenders programmed to be perfect!
This is partly a multiyear achievement award for Kerr and Popovich, and it should be. Being a low-key dude in Utah and Atlanta will do that.
1. LeBron James
4. Barton outshot Crawford despite a late-season slump, revved up Denver in transition, rebounded like a power forward and defended more reliably across both wing positions. It takes nurturing over years. Popovich re-centered his offense around Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge without completely losing the pass-first mojo that powered the 2012-2015 versions of the Spurs borg; you especially see it on bench-heavy units. Casey, Clifford and Stevens were the final, painful cuts; all of them have real arguments for the top spot.
He redefined the tone of the organization the moment he walked in the door. 2 slot. He isn’t the only one responsible for building it, but he was the driver, and he’s one of the few who’s powerful enough to undermine it if he ever chose.
The only drama comes in the last four spots, which means it really doesn’t matter much for historical purposes. No team plays, and lives, with a better spirit. You could build an argument for James Harden, carrying the wheezing wraith of Houston on his back, but he showed up out of shape and played zippo defense for a would-be contender about to limp into the No. Ed Davis
Creating a cohesive ethos that sticks is a rare thing.
There is more to winning basketball than shooting and scoring. It’s a little corny how Boston’s Stevens talks about wanting players to “soar with their strengths,” but he lives up to the motivational mantra. The NBA is considered the most predictable of the four major U.S. Cousins could crack this ballot if he tried hard all the time. He loosed Isaiah Thomas without worrying about his defensive limitations, encouraged Avery Bradley to chuck more 3s and pushed Jae Crowder to test his off-the-bounce game. By some measures, the dude is wrapping up one of the best all-around seasons ever for a rookie center. Other teams fear Westbrook. Popovich tweaks the stylistic fringes to fit every new cast, and that’s why this second-place vote isn’t just a lifetime achievement trophy. Players embraced those challenges, in part because they thought their coach and their superstar had already embraced them.
Mahinmi doubled his career assist total, nearly doubled his scoring average and obliterated almost every past statistical marker — all while maintaining his SMOTHERED CHICKEN presence around the rim on defense. Paul can’t match Westbrook’s gaudy triple-double numbers, or turn a game on its head with 45 seconds of snarling athleticism. 8 spot with a win over the tanking Kings.
The Warriors’ offense falls apart without Curry, and for the second straight season, opponents outscored Golden State — by a huge margin — with Curry on the bench. He had never started more than 12 games, and he entered this season with 107 career assists; ask him to throw a quick-hitter on the move, and he was more likely to fling the ball five rows deep in the stands.
Coming later this week: my picks for All-NBA, All-Rookie and All-Defense.
This is like choosing between Elastic Man and a fire-breathing version of The Thing. The bigs who might normally displace him have battled injuries, or slipped a bit from peak form: Joakim Noah, Marc Gasol, Serge Ibaka, Rudy Gobert, Andrew Bogut, Tim Duncan, Anthony Davis and a few others. McCollum worked as Portland’s de facto backup point guard when Lillard rested, and the Blazers outscored opponents during those minutes, per NBA.com research. Only Rick Carlisle, a confirmed warlock, and perhaps now Kerr can touch Pop’s in-game strategy and lineup optimization.
He has also played 900 more minutes than Jokic, the equivalent of 19 full games, while shouldering a much heavier load; Jokic averages a hair fewer than 10 points per game, and sometimes looks reluctant to assert himself. He would be a star anywhere. Millsap is averaging 1.7 blocks per game, by far a career high, and he’s the only rotation player in the league topping 1.7 blocks and 1.7 steals per night.
Porzingis can’t match Jokic’s advanced numbers, and he actually shot a tick worse from downtown. Both engineer decent shots from nothing, but only LeBron can steamroll to the rim almost whenever he wants. Pair him with a drive-and-kick star like Westbrook or Durant, and Kanter morphs into perhaps the league’s pre-eminent scoring mooch — gobbling up drop-off passes and offensive rebounds when his man leaves to help on a Thunder stud.
But on a night-to-night basis, Paul is the more calming, precise player, and he has to be on the ballot after keeping the Clippers afloat amid Blake Griffin’s injury melodrama.
So, screw it: I’m going with the blue-collar, unheralded Ed Davis — a journeyman who became essential for Portland, and has long slapped up per-minute numbers that blow away almost every other sixth-man candidate. The Raptors love Casey and play hard for him. He can slide more easily between the two big-man positions, hang with guards on switches, and swat damn near everything around the basket.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Crawford’s limitations on defense matter even more when he plays with those guys, since that means he’s probably also playing against opposing starters — lineups that might not offer him a safe hiding spot.
Kanter might win the damn thing, and I’d have no problem with that. Even piss-poor bench lineups relying on such tough jumpers can redistribute some of those shots to other players, and not lose much. He blew them away. Much of that gravitates from Stotts. Myles Turner is coming off the bench again.
But Crawford is barely shooting 40 percent from the floor. Kawhi Leonard
3. The better team usually wins a best-of-seven series, and the best teams with the best players win championships.
You could give the third slot to at least two-dozen guys, but I’m going with Mahinmi, Indy’s only source of reliable front-line play over the full season. He hit 3s at nearly a league-average rate, led fast breaks and assisted on 18 percent of Denver’s buckets while on the floor — the fifth-best mark in history for a rookie big. Some smaller guys can fake it for a possession or two, provided some crisis — like a rebound bouncing in their direction — doesn’t happen. You cannot imagine Golden State with a league-average point guard in Curry’s place. We don’t do a good enough job noting the other three or four bets that come up snake eyes, leaving shooters open and hanging teammates out to dry. Westbrook’s decision-making at money time can be scattershot.
Walker vowed for years he would do this. Nikola Jokic
1. Davis has better stats across the board: 61 percent from the floor as a basket vulture, the fourth-best offensive rebounding rate in the league and much better rim-protection numbers.
Green is the firing brain circuitry of perhaps the greatest team ever, nearly as important to Golden State’s top-five defense as Curry is to their all-time offense. Most of the Clippers’ bench mobs have stunk, anyway. They don’t think of him much at all, really. But no other candidate has done enough in every facet of the game to unseat him — especially given Golden State’s historic success.
Stotts empowers players to stretch themselves in his whirring motion offense, knowing that if they feel involved on that end, they’ll buy into the grunt work. For all the angst over whether Leonard can generate offense when everything else stalls out in crunch time, he ranks among the league’s best one-on-one scorers — from both the perimeter and the post, per Synergy Sports research.
I understand if some readers might not be able to identify Jokic if he walked by them. Terry Stotts
The final spot came down to a bunch of guys whose teams play together, play hard and know who they are: Stotts, Dwane Casey, Brad Stevens, Steve Clifford, Erik Spoelstra, Dave Joerger, Quin Synder, Stan Van Gundy, Mike Budenholzer and Carlisle. A lot of bench-heavy units are light on shot creators and need someone, anyone, to chuck when the shot clock dwindles. Paul Millsap
That is why Jamal Crawford is a two-time winner and such a popular candidate as he finishes this season with a flourish of crossover goodness. C.J. He might win, and he’d deserve it.
SIXTH MAN AWARD
1. But Kerr was very much present during his absence, especially when the Warriors were at home.
But he has developed into the keystone of the league’s stingiest defense since Jan. But you could imagine these Warriors playing good defense without Green; they did under Mark Jackson, using a more traditional scheme. Houston found something last season as a carefree, go-go outfit, brought back the same cast and fell apart amid chemistry issues, laziness and a staleness of spirit. You trust Stevens’ play calling a bit more than Casey’s in crunch time.
Somehow, it’s already time to hand out regular-season awards. He doesn’t take possessions off. They respect Paul, but they don’t shudder at the possibility of him smashing through their entire team — and the concept of normal basketball — for two or three pivotal minutes.
He didn’t just maintain his per-minute stats over triple the minutes. Patrick Patterson’s candidacy suffers from the same lack of raw production, but his 3-point shooting at power forward and ability to guard multiple positions make him a key part of almost every successful Toronto lineup. Durant seized more possessions, dished more dimes and drove Oklahoma City to a better scoring margin in his non-Westbrook minutes than in the opposite scenario, per NBA.com research.
There isn’t a case for anyone else. McCollum
2. When Stotts asked Davis to defend power forwards so that Leonard could hang closer to the hoop against centers, Davis accepted the shift out of position — and busted his butt to make it work.
This is why, as queasy as it makes me, I can look past the fact that serious health issues kept Kerr off the sideline for half the season. He works as a co-point guard off the bench, defends the other team’s best wing players, drains 40-plus percent of his corner 3s when Curry is on the floor and shares a genius-level defensive mind-meld with Green.
The fully engaged Warriors are a perfectly coordinated swarm. Stotts placed cast-offs and unknowns around Lillard and forged a playoff team in Portland.
D’Angelo Russell combined hot shooting with beyond-his-years playmaking after finally earning Byron Scott’s trust, only to betray Nick Young’s and deflate the Lakers’ locker room.
Now, he’s doing stuff like this:
But you can’t make a case based on a single, all-in-one stat, especially one questioned by team insiders with access to the real secret sauce: analytics derived from SportVU tracking data. Will Barton
3. No one watches the Nuggets — not even in Denver. Kristaps Porzingis
3. He finally made good. 2 option for the Knicks. Thompson has been great, but the Cavs would have finished first or second in the East even if he had held out the whole season. They are active with such synchronization; you barely notice the activity. When two bets in a row hit, it looks spectacular, and we laud Westbrook’s ability to bend the game to his will. The Magic still don’t know what in the hell they are.
That left Durant, Westbrook and Paul for two spots. Opponents for years clogged Charlotte’s dreary offense by ducking under screens against Walker, walling off his driving lanes and leaving the Bobcats/Hornets heaving up junk late in the shot clock. If you’re looking for a high-volume chaos engine, this is your guy.
Choosing Millsap for the No. Without further ado:
MOST VALUABLE PLAYER
1. Post-up brutes do better against backups; dump the ball to Kanter against some second-unit sad sack, and he’s eating buckets. Who doesn’t?
Whiteside doesn’t, though he has found another gear over the past three months. He empowered Curry to test the limits of his revolutionary game, sold stars on passing and cutting, convinced big names to sacrifice and gave everyone a voice in choosing strategies. Iguodala laps the field as a playmaker and defender. It’s like a 60-win team pushing for 70 the next season.
Yeah, Iguodala will end up missing 25 percent of the season. Their ascension is almost expected. There was almost nothing in Mahinmi’s dossier to suggest he could work as the dive man in a semi-functional pick-and-roll offense. An MVP sharpening skills-within-skills to transform into an historic superstar might be the hardest advance, and certainly the most unusual

“The rapid evolution of the global sports betting market has seen an increased risk of infiltration by organised crime and money laundering,” said Chris Eaton of the Qatar-based International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS).
A number of soccer leagues have been hit by match-fixing scandals in recent years and three Pakistani cricketers were jailed for a plot to deliberately bowl no balls during a test match against England at Lord’s in 2010.
PARIS Criminals are using betting on sports events to launder $140 billion each year, a report said on Thursday, exposing a lack of effective regulation that allows match-fixing to spread.
“If we do nothing sport will become to be seen as an arena of corruption.”
“The problem is getting worse,” Mohammed Hanzab, president of the ICSS, said in his opening speech at the Sorbonne on Thursday.
Technology and live television have transformed the sports betting market in recent years, allowing viewers to bet on a wider range of events and gamble in real time as a match progresses.
According to the report, 53 per cent of the illegal betting comes from Asia, while 49 per cent of the legal market is based in Europe.
The report, compiled by the ICSS think-tank and the Sorbonne university in Paris, said that 80 percent of global sports betting was being carried out on illegal markets, placing it beyond the reach of regulators and investigators.
Soccer and cricket were identified as the sports most threatened by criminals seeking to rig the gambling market but tennis, basketball, motor racing and badminton were also affected, according to the report, which is based on a two-year research.
“It’s too important to be left to the bite of compromise,” said Eaton.
Several territories were identified as “sports betting havens”, with England topping the list with 114 online betting licences granted, ahead of Malta (86).
Eaton, a former head of security at FIFA, said the changes have made suspect betting patterns harder to spot.
Among solutions, the report recommended a sports betting tax to finance investigations into match-fixing and closer cooperation between betting companies and sporting bodies.

In 1952 Joe founded the IPRA, The International Paddler’s Racquets Association. Solidified the rules and created the very first official rule book. These associations are the International Racquetball Tournament, the Women’s Professional Racquetball Organization and the Legends Tour. Soon afterwards in 1969 Robert W. Kendler created the IRA, The International Racquetball Association. Open championships in Memphis, Tennessee is one of the few tournaments that gets air time.. Today Racquetball has not been growing like it was in the 1970s and 1980s but the fan base stays strong with an estimated 5.6 million players.
Joe named this sport, ‘Paddle Rackets’ which eventually was renamed ‘Racquetball’ by professional tennis player Bob McInerny . Joe came up with the sport at the Greenwhich YMCA in a handball court. Eventually the IRA became the American Amateur Racquetball Association which changed its name again in the late 1990s to the United States Racquetball Association. Sanderson that every racing fan looks right at and never realizes the awesome power of it.
That is exactly he said he did! Using his Easy-Three system for horse and dog racing he has stated that he took a single $20 bill and ran it up to an incredible $17,000 in less than 30 days!
In a miracle month at Hollywood Park, California he used a winning progression – starting with only a $20 bill and achieved profits of incredible $17,000. Even though he did not really believe the secret to winning consistently was in the past performances he wanted to be able to win and knew that there was something missing from the whole racing jigsaw puzzle — something that hasn’t seen yet by most fans!
Plus, it does not require past performances to be used and does not use the selections of any public handicappers. Without using the past performances and listen to this – he didn’t even use a track program.
By pure accident, he tripped over something that had stared at him for the past 33 years that he had been going to the track — but yet he never realized — in his wildest dreams — the incredible power of this factor holds!
How would you like to walk into any race track OTB parlor, or race book and without even looking at the past performances, the public handicappers, or even the program — and end the month as much as $17,000 richer? Better yet — all starting with a lonely $20 bill?
The method can be used in all forms of pari-mutuel racing. You can even use it with Early Bird wagering and make your selections for the whole day ahead of time. It has nothing to do with public selectors or public handicappers. Find out how this method may help you start winning by visiting: mktforce.com/content.cfm?pageid=331461

Half of New Jersey voters (52%) said that they approved the idea of legalizing sports betting at Atlantic City casinos and racetracks, 31% opposed it. The bookmaker accepts both wagers, and maintains a spread (the vigorish) which will ensure a profit regardless of the outcome of the wager. This is the most common type of bet in sports.

Odds are also quite often expressed in terms of implied probability, which corresponds to the probability with which the event in question would need to occur for the bet to be a break-even proposition (on the average).

In areas where sports betting is illegal, bettors usually make their sports wagers with illicit bookmakers (known colloquially as “bookies”) and on the Internet, where thousands of online bookmakers accept wagers on sporting events around the world. The bettor can adjust the point spreads for the two games, but must get all the games correct to win and recognizes a lower return in comparison to parlays.

I came to the conclusion that by living in Kentucky, I needed to know how to bet on horses.

For whatever reason, my system has failed me at Kentucky Derbies.
The professors hate jackpots like the Pick-6.
My father, a professional gambler, absolutely HATED my betting system. (My mother was a sucker for horses with funny names.) I just follow the odds.
It drove him absolutely crazy.
I found a book called Racetrack Betting: The Professors’ Guide to Strategies by Peter Asch and Richard E. He would bet $100 on a horse and lose.
I picked the horse because of an alumni connection to a man I had never met. The last one I remember winning was Sunday Silence in 1989. That is better than any other kind of bet.
Like in the investment world, the winner at race track is the person with a conservative style and discipline. He knew everything about the horse’s past performance, their breeding and who was riding them. I would bet $10 and win.

Most of my equine knowledge was gleamed when I worked on the clean-up crew at the Kentucky Horse Park. Betting to show fits with my overall philosophy about investing. I can tell you what horses make the biggest mess. He and I would go to Keeneland every session and we never picked the same horse.
The wisdom of crowds concept is really popular now.
Thus the best advice may be to forget all the high powered systems and experts and give it your best guess.
Although there are people more qualified to give Derby tips, like many financial commentators, I won’t let lack of expertise stop me.
As the son of a professional gambler, people often ask me for betting advice.
The professors said that betting to show will produce a winner 52% of the time. Slow and steady works in the financial markets and works at the track too.
Although I started going to race tracks before I was able to walk, I don’t know much about the horse industry.
The book bases the ability to pick horses on an economic theory known as the wisdom of crowds.
Betting to show is a practice that I follow religiously. It was a stupid reason for picking a horse but produced one of my few winners.

When I go to the track, I don’t look at the racing form, jockeys, past history or pick horses with funny names. It is a driving force for web sites like Google. If dad ever met the professors, he would have punched them in the nose.
I stuck to my system.
Bet on the horse that everyone else is betting on. I can sum up the advice in two statements.
Dad liked the excitement of big odds and big payoffs.
The professors frown on exactas, daily doubles or any bet that exhibits large risk.
Dad was superstitious and started to believe that my system was jinxing him
It is important to be able to predict how the race track will change over the race and adjust the lead weight accordingly.
o Front placed lead weights are important for steering and handling.
The most important factor in the popularity of horse racing (the sport of kings), is the betting on the result. As the race progresses the car will burn fuel so will become lighter. The more weight the more of both are needed.
A well constructed race car will need to add weight to meet the rules, but the placement of the added weight can make a significant difference to how the car performs on the track. If there rear weight is high then the handling will improve as the race goes on but the car will not be as fast in the early laps due to the increased weight. Betting can take place based on how well the horse is performing, and factors such as the horses “pace” (defined as how the horse runs a race front runner, closer etc.), how well the horse looks in the paddock and the skill of the jockey. Nuclead offers lead weights for sprts racing, x-ray rooms, lead flashing, lead bricks, lead alloy pours & sheets, lead based alloys, lead bar stock, lead bullets, extrusions, lead weights, ingots & other lead products.
Lead weights are used to handicap horse races, to make the race more competitive.
The most important factor that that determines the amount of lead weight added to the saddle bag is the maturity of the horse.
Lead is a dense a relatively inexpensive metal. In horse racing the lead weights are used to ensure a more completive leas predictable race, while in car racing the added lead weight is used fine tune the performance of the car to increase an individual’s chance of winning.
Nuclead has available lead weights for all applications, up to 40,000 lbs in many configurations.
Lead weights for racing car traction and handling
In racing cars lead weights are used to help control the cars traction and handling. Under the weight for age scale the amount of lead weight the horse carries is determine by the horse’s age, its sex, the race distance and the month.
As a result of the handicapping, races become much less predicable and much more interesting. The handicappers can add additional interest by setting up races between horses with similar paces styles.
Lead weight plays an important part in many sports races, but not always for the same reasons.. As a result, in 1855 the weight for age scale was introduced by the then steward of the Jockey Club, Henry John Rous. Lead weights have a myriad number of uses in all industry and human activity. While the rules require cars meet a minimum weight to be allowed to race, this is actually a secondary factor in most cases.
In order for the racing to move, the engine needs to produce enough power and the tires have to generate enough traction. So it is key to understand how the race track will change.
Lead Weights for handicapping horse races
In addition to the weight of the jockey and the saddle, the horse carries a defined amount of lead weights in the saddle bags. As the car drives into the corners, the weight will tend to transfer onto the outer tires having weight on the sides of the car will tend to keep traction on the inside wheels.
One other weight factor that needs to be considered is fuel weight. This lead weight is called the “impost” and is assigned by the racing authorities based on several factors.
Nuclead can supply lead weights for all applications. High traction race-tracks will obviously need less weight at the rear, but the track conditions will vary on several factors including the weather, and time into the race. Depending on the length of the race and track conditions decisions need to be made regarding the percentage of weight at the rear. In sports, lead weights are used most often horse racing and car racing.
While the object of any race is to win, lead weights are used to different purpose in horse racing and car racing. However, predicting a winner of a race is relatively easy based on the maturity of the horse and its past performance, so in order maintain a competitive betting experience many horse races are handicapped. Lead weights need to be carefully placed in several parts of the chassis for example:
o Rear placed weights are important for traction; the amount of weight is determined by the race track conditions. Horses are fully mature by the age of three, without the impost a mature horse will always win a race with a younger horse, especially over a longer course. Weights are typically placed higher than rear weights in order to increase front roll and subsequently front tire traction.
o Side weight is important for handling in the corners
